Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 5: Those Poor Mice!

A bout of pneumonia (or lack of interest, I'm not sure) culled the cast down to three this week. Sucks for the rest of Team Geekspeak, because this week was pretty awesome...and weird. Weirdly awesome? I don't know. We talked about lost NASA tapes and The Pirate Bay going legit, and finally fulfilled our public service obligations with the FCC by giving you not one, not two, but three stories in one of the biggest Robocalypse Updates ever! Find out what menace robot girlfriends, pest-killing automatons, and bloated Michael Bay movies pose to you by downloading the podcast now!

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 3: Of Virtual Gods
Full disclosure: We recorded this one a week early. And still somehow got it up late. Maybe that's why the Wings didn't win? I don't know. What I do know is that not only does Kathryn review Sims 3, we also discuss the gay marriage option in the game. We also talk Masi Oka's new movie, Sweden's Pirate Party, and lots more! Just download it.Tuesday, June 09, 2009
Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 2: Now With Motion Control

Finally, we're able to present to you Geekspeak's E3 show. This one was a bit of a clusterfudge, so please bear with us in terms of quality and continuity. But what's there is really good - find out what we thought about Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft's pressers at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, as well as our thoughts on some of the smaller publishers. You'll never believe who we thought had the best conference! (Hint: It is not Sony or Microsoft.) Now that the hype has died down a bit, check in with us for the only E3 talk that matters. Download it now.

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 1: In Which Secrets Are Revealed
What a show, what a show. We talked about the FCC overstepping its bounds, a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, futuristic soldiers, E3 predictions, and unveiled all sorts of terrible hidden secrets that the Geekspeak crew was sort of hoping would stay quiet. Joining us for this episode was none other than the mega-talented Maggie Wang, the young lady who created those adorable Sackboys you see above. Tune in to hear what Maggie has to say about her Sackboys, her fitness regimen, what it takes to design video game UIs, and lots more. And make sure you visit her website and commission a doll, eh? While you rack your brain trying to think of what you want your Sackboy to look like, download the podcast.Tuesday, May 19, 2009
Geekspeak Supplemental #15: Boldly Going Where...OK, So Lots of People Have Been Here.

I'm just gonna cut straight to the basics with this one because I spent way too long editing it (as you can tell by the very late posting date). Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 14: You Should Have Seen It Before The Edits
This episode...man, I don't even know. We talk about some stuff, like Obama pledging to increase scientific research funding, Capcom's Captivate event, the founder of 4Chan becoming Time's Most Influential Person, aliens...there's some Star Wars homophobia in there...so overall, a good lineup. I just apologize in advance. Download it here.Wednesday, April 22, 2009

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 12: A Quiet, Brief Affair

We're missing some of the normal crew this week. That's cool, though. We've got lots to talk about anyway. Like how Snopes.com has been officially vetted by the Annenberg Foundation and FactCheck.org. Or how EA shipped illegal weapons through the mail to games journalists. Or maybe a report on how Wolverine won't be affected by piracy is more your thing. You like Twitter? We got some of that, and we also talk about how Gamestop could totally be doing something illegal. Yeah, all the bases are covered with this one, just in a smaller package than usual.
Download it. Or don't. But you probably should.

W-A-T-C-H-M-E-N! What does that spell? GEEKSPEAK!

Pardon any technical errors, this was put together at great haste and expediency to deliver you the most up-to-the-minute information on what we thought about the movie. Just go ahead and download it now.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 6

You know, I put all this time and effort into writing these blurbs, but I'm not convinced anyone ever reads them, as all they care about is downloading the show. So you can go ahead and do that right now if you want. If you're still reading, this week we keep the new format and use it to talk about Twittering plants, zombies in love, the Batman, and the Internet actually doing something morally responsible for a change.
But I suppose you'll find that out soon enough, since you're probably already listening to it. *sigh*...I'm going to go lie down.

- Space tourism hits new heights and gamers decide to sue EA in the News of the Week
- And Steve Watts tells you all you need to know about the first two or three hours of Metal Gear Solid 4, that one game that came out this week.

No New Geekspeak Tonight 06/09/2008

Due to the fact that Bryan and Wags are taking a one-week class to become better podcasters and Jake cannot be trusted to run things by himself, we're taking a break from the show this week. Please stay tuned to this website and the podcast feed, as we plan on having something special up for you this week in lieu of a new show. And don't forget to tune in next Monday night at 9:00 PM, for your chance to win oodles of prizes! (Like, seriously, two prizes!)

Geekspeak Supplemental #8: Central Beat...with Bryan!
I'm also the graduate assistant for the news program here at CMU, and the advisor for the news division of Modern Rock 91.5. As such, I have a vested interest in how that turns out, and decided I would let you all check out one of the other shows the station has to offer: Central Beat!
Central Beat is a half-hour long news program that airs at noon (Eastern time) on Saturdays. Long-time Geekspeakers will be interested to know that none other than our own Lindsey used to run it when she was the station news director. Now I'm advising it, and was invited to be on the show by the current news director. So I did. It's a good show and I think it'll be fun to talk about something different.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 8
Geekspeak will be taking a vacation next week, but before that we've got this week's episode. And it's a doozy, even if an obstinate air conditioner can be heard rattling through the entire thing. That annoyance aside, on this week's episode we discussed subliminal messages in slot machines, terrorism in Second Life, news on Sin City 2 and a live-action Justice League movie, and lots more fun in the News of the Week. Frank discusses failed Tests, internet inaccuracies, and is briefly married to Tina Fey in this week's Frankly Speaking, Lindsey checks in to illuminate the terrifying world of Second Life for us, Adam tells us all about lasers, and Bryan comes to a slow and gentle revelation about precisely where the Mac has been all his life. Add in a 60-Second Soundoff (we were running short on time) and all the regular tomfoolery, and it's almost like you don't even need an episode next week! Just listen to this one again.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 14
product placement in superhero movies, and an analysis of how women are portrayed in comic books. It's actually almost more than we could fit into thirty minutes,
but somehow we managed. Of course, we've got other news, Frank discusses the downfall of ECW, and we welcome Jake Lahmann for his first official appearance on the show alongside returning bit player Adam Barragato.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 13
Back to the half-hour format this week, but we still managed to fit scads o'stuff into it. Thrill as we discuss a new Constantine movie! Tremble in terror as we chat about injuries sustained from playing the Wii! Gasp in awe as Adam shows up halfway through and makes a personal challenge to Bill O'Reilly in our Big Topic! Dance a merry jig with our one-two punch of Frank's Wrasslin' Report and Two Minutes of a Girl Talking! It's one podcast, but it inspires so much emotion.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 12
We talk about the shocking news of Peter Jackson leaving the Tolkien universe, the new Harry Potter trailer, Bruce Lee coming back to life, and more. Frank and Katie chat about women wrestlers in the Wrasslin' Report, Lindsey talks about Harry Potter in 2 Minutes, and for our (two!) Big Topics this week, we discuss what we are thankful for as geeks along with a blow-by-blow analysis of the launch weekend madness for the PS3 and the Wii.
As you chow down on turkey, treat yourself to some brain food too...along with a heaping side of cliches, apparently. Huh.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 11
it? We talk Spider-Man 3 trailer, the upcoming clash o' the titans between the Wii and the PS3,
dolphins that can sing the Batman theme song, and Nicholas Cage. We also give you an update on the Coming Robot Apocalypse, and dedicate a very special Chicken Dance to Frank's dearly
departed friend. Nicole, we will miss you.
Of course, Frank's got his wrasslin' report, and Lindsey comes out of nowhere with a really
intriguing 2 Minutes Of A Girl Talking that was really more like Seven Minutes Of A Girl
Talking and a lot of fun. To sum up: new panelist, Spider-Man 3, nerds in love...how come
you're not downloading it already?

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 10
We also chatted about Kevin Federline's breakup with Britney Spears and if his WWE stint had anything to do with it (hint: it didn't) and made fun of Tomonobu Itagaki for being a creepy sex offender. You had to be there.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 8
The phone wouldn't stop ringing this episode. That sticks out pretty prominently in my memory. What also sticks out prominently is that we discuss the Halo movie, the new tracks for Guitar Hero 2, Fraggle Rock, new iPods, and lots more. Frank talks about the new TNA contracts, Lindsey drops her new segment on us by talking about some of her favorite websites, and we talk a little about the geekiest of all holidays, Halloween, and our plans for costumes.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 7
We discuss Kingdom Hearts II, iPod viruses, K-Fed getting his butt kicked on Raw, taxes in MMORPGs, and lots more. Plus, we started a new feature, Geekspeak Essentials, where we'll run down the essential media/etc. that anyone who listens to the show should see/hear/read/etc. - This week, it's movies, and the illustrious WMHW Program Director Adam Barragato drops in for a surprise film critique throwdown. Not a perfect show, but it's a great illustration of live radio and was still a lot of fun to do.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 6
I don't know what it is about this show, but I can honestly and without hyperbole say that every week keeps getting better and better. What's so great about this one? Try a new cast member. Lindsay had so much fun dropping in last week she's now going to be a permanent fixture on the show, so everyone give her a nice welcome. "Oh, Sony, Sony, Sony" makes its triumphant return to the show as I completely botch the story that not only did I write, but is directly in front of me. We discuss the implications of WWE's new tag team "Crime Time" in Frank's wrestling segment and our big topic of the week talks about midterm elections and their effect on video games and geek culture in general. All this, plus gun-toting robots, haiku, and Arrested Development references.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 5
Olrich, creator of Commodore Dinosaur. We've also got a review of the X-Men 3 DVD, we talk about the premiere of South Park, Burger King games, and so much more. We even had a surprise guest drop by the studio to rap with us, and that's pretty neat-o, too. Of course, as always, we've got our standard news and pro wrestling updates.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 4
On this week's episode, it's very news-heavy as we talk about the PS3's dwindling (or growing?) chances at prosperity. We talk a little Wii, Weird Al's new album, discuss the potential for paid online distribution of comics, make fun of Keith Richards, and in this week's Big Topic, I give a brief review of Jet Li's swan song, "Fearless". And somehow, we also managed to fit in some chatting about pie. I'd say it's our best show yet.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 3
Frank also checks in with his Wrasslin' Report, we talk about The Boogeyman's release, Kurt Angle joining an MMA league, and lots more. Our Big Topic for the week is Marvel's Civil War storyline. I If you like the idea of two guys pontificating about the social relevance of superheroes beating the tar out of one another, you've got a lot to like in this episode.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 2
In this episode, we talk about the new announcement that Apple will be offering downloadable movies for the iPod, as well as update you on the upcoming battle between Nintendo's Wii and the Playstation 3. There's two Batman stories in this one, and Batman is always pretty awesome. Frank busts out a wrestling update with some Unforgiven predictions, and we run down the list of upcoming video game movies. Lots of movies on there...few of them good.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 1
The rest of the show is perfectly intact, however! We discuss the week's big news stories, everything from Democratic candidate Mark Warner's appearance in Second Life to Mario Happy Meals to the new Optimus Prime to other things that would make this a really long run-on sentence. Frank steps in with the first edition of his wrasslin' report and we also chat about some of the big nerd news of the summer.
So here it is, for better or for worse, our first episode. Enjoy.
