Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 5: Those Poor Mice!

A bout of pneumonia (or lack of interest, I'm not sure) culled the cast down to three this week. Sucks for the rest of Team Geekspeak, because this week was pretty awesome...and weird. Weirdly awesome? I don't know. We talked about lost NASA tapes and The Pirate Bay going legit, and finally fulfilled our public service obligations with the FCC by giving you not one, not two, but three stories in one of the biggest Robocalypse Updates ever! Find out what menace robot girlfriends, pest-killing automatons, and bloated Michael Bay movies pose to you by downloading the podcast now!

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 4

Short one this week. About 35 minutes. There's a lot in those 35 minutes, though, including talk of the world's first movie and book series to be based on a Facebook status, Bobby Kotick's induction into the Geekspeak Hall of Douchery, Saturn's amazing disappearing rings, a cell phone that charges itself, and giant robot nadgers! Somehow, I think that last bit will be the part everyone fast-forwards to. At any rate, it's up (with some lovely discussion of Scooter's wedding!), and you can download it now.

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 4....

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 3: Of Virtual Gods

Full disclosure: We recorded this one a week early. And still somehow got it up late. Maybe that's why the Wings didn't win? I don't know. What I do know is that not only does Kathryn review Sims 3, we also discuss the gay marriage option in the game. We also talk Masi Oka's new movie, Sweden's Pirate Party, and lots more! Just download it.

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 2: Now With Motion Control

Finally, we're able to present to you Geekspeak's E3 show. This one was a bit of a clusterfudge, so please bear with us in terms of quality and continuity. But what's there is really good - find out what we thought about Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft's pressers at the Electronic Entertainment Expo, as well as our thoughts on some of the smaller publishers. You'll never believe who we thought had the best conference! (Hint: It is not Sony or Microsoft.) Now that the hype has died down a bit, check in with us for the only E3 talk that matters. Download it now.

Geekspeak Season 9, Episode 1: In Which Secrets Are Revealed

What a show, what a show. We talked about the FCC overstepping its bounds, a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, futuristic soldiers, E3 predictions, and unveiled all sorts of terrible hidden secrets that the Geekspeak crew was sort of hoping would stay quiet. Joining us for this episode was none other than the mega-talented Maggie Wang, the young lady who created those adorable Sackboys you see above. Tune in to hear what Maggie has to say about her Sackboys, her fitness regimen, what it takes to design video game UIs, and lots more. And make sure you visit her website and commission a doll, eh? While you rack your brain trying to think of what you want your Sackboy to look like, download the podcast.

Geekspeak Supplemental #15: Boldly Going Where...OK, So Lots of People Have Been Here.

I'm just gonna cut straight to the basics with this one because I spent way too long editing it (as you can tell by the very late posting date). It's Geekspeak, we talk about the new Star Trek movie and how great it is. On the show, we've got Bryan, Jake, Steve Watts, and joining us once again in his triumphant return, Drew Proctor. It's over an hour and ten minutes long, and you can download it here.

Geekspeak Supplemental #14: Adamantium? Damn Near Killed 'Em!

In case it wasn't oblique enough for you, we're talking about X-Men Origins: Wolverine this week. And that's it! Treat your ears to 45 minutes of crystal clear audio as we try out a new recording technique and delve deeply into the first blockbuster of the summer. Were we daffy for Deadpool? Suckers for Sabretooth? Excited for...uh...the X-Men?...Look, just download it already.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 14: You Should Have Seen It Before The Edits

This episode...man, I don't even know. We talk about some stuff, like Obama pledging to increase scientific research funding, Capcom's Captivate event, the founder of 4Chan becoming Time's Most Influential Person, aliens...there's some Star Wars homophobia in there...so overall, a good lineup. I just apologize in advance. Download it here.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 12: A Quiet, Brief Affair

We're missing some of the normal crew this week. That's cool, though. We've got lots to talk about anyway. Like how Snopes.com has been officially vetted by the Annenberg Foundation and FactCheck.org. Or how EA shipped illegal weapons through the mail to games journalists. Or maybe a report on how Wolverine won't be affected by piracy is more your thing. You like Twitter? We got some of that, and we also talk about how Gamestop could totally be doing something illegal. Yeah, all the bases are covered with this one, just in a smaller package than usual.

Download it. Or don't. But you probably should.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 11: I Don't Need Your Console War

The new Geekspeak is up! In it, find untold treasures, such as discussion of the new DSi and whether you (and by you we mean Wags) should get one! Also, what is PETA doing in the World...of Warcraft? Why should Darth Vader sue George Lucas? WTF was Konami thinking with Six Days in Fallujah? And prepare your loins for an epic Special Comment that will leave you thinking "Boy...Bryan put way too much time into that". The fun starts when you say so.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 10: We Won't Get Fooled Again

Huzzah and glory be, it's another Geekspeak. This week, the unparalleled Robbi Rodriguez makes his triumphant return to the show to talk about his upcoming convention appearances, his latest projects like Frankie Get Your Gun, and how the Maintenance movie is coming along. Also on Robbi's mind? Stephen Colbert and Watchmen, plus your reader questions. But we've got a regular show too, with discussion of the $99 PS2 price drop, April Fools' Day gags, and the leak of X-Men Origins: Wolverine to the 'tubes. Just download it already, would you?

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 9

We return rested and refreshed from last week's pseudo-vacation with a new Geekspeak. Just five stories this time around, but oh, what stories they are! We've got stories about a planned Fantastic Four reboot, controversy over same-sex marriages in the electronic Game of Life, and mad science at its finest! Also, the cast discusses Resident Evil 5, which is part of the reason this show went up late. Finally, in a very special Soundoff, find out the ro-man-tic dreams of the crew as they discuss their dream weddings. And stay after the end for Kathryn's command performance of the song that proves Dane Cook is a stupid jerk. It's all at your fingertips, so download it right now!

W-A-T-C-H-M-E-N! What does that spell? GEEKSPEAK!

Alright, here's how it is. I'm on vacation. That means no real show this week. Instead, we decided to record a 40-odd minute podcast about Watchmen. I think it turned out well. Pardon any technical errors, this was put together at great haste and expediency to deliver you the most up-to-the-minute information on what we thought about the movie. Just go ahead and download it now.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 8

Yes, we know Judd Apatow is apparently not actually involved with Ghostbusters 3. Ignore that story. Let's focus on the parts of the new Geekspeak that are still up to date. Parts like this:
While I curse Apatow's name, download the new show.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 7

So here's a show. On the show, we talk about lots of things. Things like a study showing texting may be good for children, the upcoming PSP renaissance, Street Fighter IV, kraken, traditional radio hosts moving to podcasting, the Dark Knight, and the Oscars. The Oscars thing gets a little hectic but rest assured we are all still friends. It's another solid hour of awesome, so go ahead and download it now.

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 6

You know, I put all this time and effort into writing these blurbs, but I'm not convinced anyone ever reads them, as all they care about is downloading the show. So you can go ahead and do that right now if you want. If you're still reading, this week we keep the new format and use it to talk about Twittering plants, zombies in love, the Batman, and the Internet actually doing something morally responsible for a change.

But I suppose you'll find that out soon enough, since you're probably already listening to it. *sigh*...I'm going to go lie down.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009

Geekspeak Season 8, Episode 5

It's a Geekspeak that's heavy on the new and light on the suck as we welcome not only the fresh female face of Kathryn Gonsior but also a brand new format! Listen up as we count down the top ten best geek stories of the week, including the release of The Lonely Island's debut album, the DTV transition delay, Bill Gates releasing mosquitoes on his fellow plutocrats, and - of course - Watchmen!

Is this the precipice of a brand new era for Geekspeak? Probably. There's only one way to find out, and that's by downloading it.

A Geekspeak Thxgiving

As you hustle to and bustle fro in the start to this busy holiday season, let Geekspeak bring you warm and fuzzy feelings to help get the turkey digesting and bargain shopping moving along nicely. Bryan, Wags, Scooter, Jake, and Steve Watts all pooled their efforts together to answer the question: What geeky things are we thankful for? The results were as disparate and fun as you might imagine, with everything from bleeps to poetry and beyond. So enjoy this special episode of Geekspeak! We'll be back with another regular episode next week.

Geekspeak Season 7, Episode 8

We here at Geekspeak are proud to announce our new sponsors at Subway®! Subway® makes delicious sandwiches, soup, cookies, and now even pizza, all so you can Eat Fresh™! Sure, it may be a little weird for a while as we move from a non-commercial format to corporate sponsorship, but trust me - you'll get used to it soon enough!
See? No changes at all! Now go download it as I shop for a new house.

(Disclaimer Because Scooter Said We Probably Should: We are not actually being sponsored by Subway and they do not endorse anything we do in this episode. However, if they are interested in sponsoring us we are totally interested.)

Another week, another bastion of immaturity as the bar is both raised and lowered in the latest episode of Geekspeak.
No show next week because you should be voting and/or volunteering for your candidate of choice if you're able to. Also, Bryan won't be there. So definitely enjoy this one by downloading it now!

Geekspeak Season 7, Episode 3

Holy wow, have we got a hum-danger of a show for you this week! Not only do we have that great Geekspeak "flava" all the kids seem to love, we also have super special guest star and artist extraordinaire Robbi Rodriguez joining us for the hour! You've seen his work gracing the pages of Stephen Colbert's Tek Jansen and Hazed, as well as his own creator-owned projects like Maintenance and Hero Camp! Now hear his voice (as well as Bryan and Steve Watts') as we discuss the following tidbits:
Robbi Rodriguez is awesome! You should totally visit his websites! And while you visit them, listen to the show! If your face is not sufficiently rocked, then...listen again!

Also, the show does have some salty language this time. There's at least one b*******, one bulls***, and maybe a f***? I don't remember. But then again, it's probably less vulgar than most things, including your grandmother. She's got a mouth on her.

Geekspeak Supplemental #13: Jake 2.5

Jacob Lahmann, saddened because he has not appeared on an episode yet in this young season, took it upon himself to record this special edition of Geekspeak. Call it Season 7, Episode 2.5. He tells you what he thinks about Mega Man and his mysterious connection to Journey, Metalocalypse, Spore, and partakes of egregious use of the word "chode". This guy might actually have a future on this show! We should totally have him on some time.

Download the "episode" now!. Trust me - it's pretty awesome. I'm sitting here and laughing as I post this.

And for the record: it was ONE hour of Mega Man. Not two.

Chode.

Geekspeak Season 7, Episode 1

Geekspeak returns from the mists of vacation to make the world safe once again for nerds to discuss relatively unimportant things. We're not on the radio any more, but the pip and verve you've come to expect knows no medium, as evidenced by this thunderous lineup!
Holy crap! All this and it's only an hour and fifteen minutes long. You should totally download it - otherwise, why did we do this?

Geekspeak Season 7, Episode 1 Coming Tonight!

Our long national nightmare is almost over, and the next episode of the now radio-free Geekspeak is almost at hand. We recorded it yesterday and all that remains is basically to score it with some music so it's not just dry vocals. That should hopefully be done by tonight, so keep an eye on this here feed and grab it as soon as it's up! Trust me - it's a good 'un.

Geekspeak Supplemental #11: PAX 2008 - A Meeting of the Minds, Pt. 2

It's the de facto largest gaming convention in America, and Geekspeak's own Steve Watts was among the teeming throngs lined up to partake of the bounty provided by Gabe and Tycho, the proprietors of Penny Arcade. (Give it a try - that little comic is gonna go places.) In true "What I Did On My Summer Vacation Style", Mr. Watts sits down with Bryan to discuss the transpirin's. Thrill to his discussion of the prank played on an unsuspecting audience by Geekspeak favorite Jonathan Coulton! Marvel at his description of Clone Wars for the DS! Seethe with jealous rage as he talks about Starcraft 2! It's all here, plus as an added treat there's some information on the upcoming seventh season of Geekspeak.

(Sorta) Final Episode of Geekspeak Tonight!

Hey kids, it's the end of an era tonight at 9 PM Eastern as we bid farewell to the comfortable confines of Modern Rock 91.5 after 6 full seasons of whatever it is we do.

But don't stress, as we're going out with a bang. Two full hours of Geekspeak action are coming to you tonight. That's right. TWO. Plus, we've got lots of special guests, some fond reminiscing, and lots more. Plus, we're going to be bringing you all the news and discussion you've come to expect - I said we're going out the way we came in, and I mean it.

All good things must come to an end...but then again, all good things can rise from the ashes, too. Stay tuned for updates, as you have not heard the last of Geekspeak. Trust me.

Geekspeak Supplemental #10: Live from SKATE WAR!

So the Geekspeak crew hit the road and braved the sunlight and crowds of athletic people to broadcast live from the annual Skate War event as part of a Modern Rock 91.5 remote broadcast. What ensued was about 45 minutes of standard-issue Geekspeak wackiness in a brand new location. Join Bryan, Jake, Wags, and Scooter as we talk about obscene amounts of Dark Knight cash, legal action over Facebook applications, and all the latest Comic-Con and fighting game news. Outside. Did I mention it was outside?

Please pardon the audio quality, as we were not exactly in a prime spot for broadcast, and I had to clean up the audio. In addition, a few bits of audio were clipped due to technical difficulties. Even so, the show went on and was a lot of fun, so download it here!

Geekspeak Supplemental #9: E3 2008 - A Meeting of the Minds

E3 2008 is underway (or done, I don't really know) and we wanted to make sure you were well aware of what we thought and felt here at Geekspeak. So, rather than wait for next week's show, we decided instead to record a quick podcast over Skype. Joining Bryan for this special edition is none other than friend of the show and freelance writer for 1UP.com, Steve Watts. What ensued was nearly an hour of intelligent, insightful, and fun gaming chatter. Among the topics: Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo's press conferences, the Lost Planet movie, Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour, and lots, lots more!

I'd tell you more, but this is something that should be experienced. So download it now!

Important Geekspeak Reminder!

Kylee, the official Geekspeak baby, has been entered in a "Cutest Kid" contest at the photographers where her pictures are taken. Her Uncle Bryan wants to make sure she wins, and is enlisting the help of you, the Geekspeak Army, to do so.

Here's what you have to do:

1) Send an e-mail to info@imageartz.com
2) In the subject line (or the message) write the following:

"I vote for 8.jpg"
3) Send

Keep in mind, they count unique email addresses. So if you've got more than one addy, you can use them all (and please do so).

And besides, look at this!:

How can you deny that? You have until May 31st! Vote early, vote often.

Geekspeak Supplemental #8: Central Beat...with Bryan!

You know, geeks are generally well-rounded individuals and I am certainly no exception. I spent four years studying political science and have covered elections in the past. This time of year, as tired as it makes me, is like an eleven-month-long Christmas.

I'm also the graduate assistant for the news program here at CMU, and the advisor for the news division of Modern Rock 91.5. As such, I have a vested interest in how that turns out, and decided I would let you all check out one of the other shows the station has to offer: Central Beat!

Central Beat is a half-hour long news program that airs at noon (Eastern time) on Saturdays. Long-time Geekspeakers will be interested to know that none other than our own Lindsey used to run it when she was the station news director. Now I'm advising it, and was invited to be on the show by the current news director. So I did. It's a good show and I think it'll be fun to talk about something different.

Download it here.

Geekspeak Season 4, Episode 16

It's the last show of the season, and what better way to celebrate it than to take a look at what's come before? Yes, it's the obligatory "Year in Review" show, but with a twist - the arguments are scored! No, really, it's not at all like that "Around the Horn" show. Stop looking at me.

Anyway, we talk about the iPhone, Harry Potter, the console wars, whether Spider-Man 3 sucked or not, lots of good stuff. Sixty minutes, eight (or so) topics, only one winner. Well, actually, technically we all win. And Jake goes nuts...er. You know what? You should probably listen to it.

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 11

And it was written that an eleventh episode would be delivered upon the world in this third season, and that the streets would run red with strawberry jam for some reason. In this week's show, Bryan tackles the Robocalypse and news of Futurama's return in the News of the Week. Frank talks about the Youtube debates and whether or not they're the future of democracy in Frankly Speaking. Katie reviews the Simpsons movie in Katie at Large and - once again - Bryan doesn't shut up. Drew talks Hollywood and Comic-Con in That Segment Drew Does, and Jake brings it home to video game town in Lahmann's Terms. All this, plus a special Batman-flavored Soundoff, makes for one cool refreshing blast of nerdiness to ease those long summer days!

You can listen to this week's episode by clicking here.

Tuesday, July 24, 2007

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 10

I solemnly swear that we are up to no good as we kick off the 30th proper episode of Geekspeak! Katie's gone, but Drew's back as we talk about Harry Potter news and more in the News of the Week, Frank talks about wrestling injuries in Frankly Speaking, Drew tells us about some more silly Hollywood ideas, and Jake fills us in on the world of video gaming in Lahmann's terms. All this, plus a Soundoff in which Bryan's taste is mocked, can be yours for the low, low price of free!

You can download the new episode by clicking here.

Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 9

We're down one Frank, but full of flavor nonetheless. In this week's episode, we talk about online broadcasting, Prince's new album, and Mario Party 8 recalls in the News of the Week. Katie initiates a one-woman Kane lovefest in Katie at Large. Special guest Drew Proctor lets us know some of the ridiculous stuff Hollywood executives think you'll pay to see, and Jake takes a break from failing miserably at managing the IMs to let us know a little about E3. We talk about Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix quite a bit, and nobody can quite seem to agree what rating to give it. All this, plus another "In A Fight" edition of the Soundoff!

You can download this most recent episode by clicking here.

Tuesday, July 10, 2007

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 8

It's a Transformapalooza on this week's show, as we talk about nerd smackdowns, busted pirates, and lots more in the News of the Week (with some Bob Hoskins to boot!). Frank talks about the mysterious "Cloverfield" trailer that was attached to the movie and we postulate what it could mean in this week's Frankly Speaking. Katie has a proper review of the movie, in which Bryan can't seem to shut up, in Katie at Large. There's no Transformers talk In Lahmann's Terms this week, but he does talk about some games that should be fun. And in the Soundoff, find out what car your favorite Geekspeaker would turn into! There's more than meets the ear to this show (Yuk yuk yuk)!

You can download the new episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 5

So I got a new episode of Geekspeak here. You probably want it. We've got updates on the Manchester Cathedral situation as well as the looming Robocalypse in the News of the Week, and a review of Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer (Spoiler: Katie didn't like it, Bryan sort of did). Frank talks about the pure ridiculosity of the Mr. McMahon death angle in Frankly Speaking. Katie tells us about a book purporting to discover the way that the modern adult's mind works in Katie at Large. Jake's got talk of the Wii being used for physical therapy and a couple quick news bits In Lahmann's Terms. And you can learn the origin stories of your favorite Geekspeakers as they relate their geek awakenings in this week's Soundoff. Then things sort of take a turn.

It's another hour of geeky goodness, and you can download it by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 4

I'm strapped for time and therefore don't have the energy to write pithy comments about this episode. So here are the bullet points:

- Evil humanoid robots and Sony ticks off the Church of England in the News of the Week
- Clueless referees and 12 year-old girl wrestlers that kick butt in Frankly Speaking
- Star Wars, Robot Chicken, and Wookiee noises in Katie at Large
- Prince of Persia: The XBLA remake and the movie, In Lahmann's Terms
- Han vs. Chewie and other existential dilemmas, plus a direct challenge to a listener in the Soundoff

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 3

The third season heads into its third episode and things get a little kooky. Bryan talks about Microsoft Surface and remotes to take care of annoying theatergoers in the News of the Week. Frank talks about book burning in this week's Frankly Speaking. Katie talks about Harry Potter and pushes the show into probably its biggest off-topic conversation ever, and Jake talks about Nintendo or something in Lahmann's Terms. And, in our soundoff, folks get downright testy over cute CGI animals. Remember: it's free, so you can't complain!

You can download this week's episode by clicking here.

Tuesday, May 29, 2007

Geekspeak Season 3, Episode 2

The unstoppable juggernaut that is Season Three barrels forward with an episode that has been aptly described as "out of control, but in a good way". We talk about Silver Surfer quarters and WoW wishes in the News of the Week. Frank has a Grindhouse-centric Frankly Speaking for us, which leads to a spirited discussion about...things. Katie pontificates on what it means to be a "geezer" in Katie at Large, and is quickly baited into a back-and-forth on Pirates of the Caribbean 3 by Bryan. Jake talks about nudity in Halo In Lahmann's Terms, and we manage to squeak in a couple special "In A Fight" 60-Second Soundoffs to satisfy your uncontrollable bloodlust.

As always, you can download the new episode by clicking here.

Tuesday, May 22, 2007

Geekspeak Season Three, Episode One: Hour 2

In the thrilling second hour of our Two-Hour Spectacular, Frank unleashes the fell hounds of a grande-sized Frankly Speaking, in which he discusses TNA exclusivity, TNA of a different sort with augmented Harry Potter posters, and how Photoshop may be more effective than the Hair Club for Men. Jake likes Smash Brothers, and talks about it. Katie brings us the first installment of Katie At Large, this one's about our favorite geek girls, and there is also talk of pirates. We perform a post-mortem on Spider-Man 3, and wrap up the show with a 60-Second Soundoff. I think there's some more awkward moments in here too.

Get the most from your Geekspeak dollar (or lack thereof) by downloading the new episode here.

Geekspeak Season Three, Episode One: Hour 1

On this, the first half of the two-hour Geekspeak Season Premiere Spectacular, we've got all kinds of terrific stuff in the News of the Week. We'll talk about Starcraft 2, Tom Jane leaving the Punisher sequel, Fantastic Four quarters, dubious Halo 3 awards that could have set off a political incident, and lots more, including all your favorite trademark awkward moments. There may not be any music, but we've got some fantastic new blood in the studio, including the illustrious Katie Beckman and Jake Lahmann, who's filling a seat for the first time. Be nice to him! Hour two will be up shortly.

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Supplemental #6: The Mick Foley Interview

In this exclusive interview, we talk with Hardcore Legend (you have to capitalize it) and best-selling author about Mick Foley. Hear him talk about his career as a writer, what he thinks of the new ECW and professional wrestling these days in general, his favorite geeky pasttimes, and exactly what he thinks of Frank's futon. All this, and a great Sly Stallone impersonation! Parts of this interview were broadcast May 1, 2007 as part of Season Two, Episode 16.
This is the full version of that interview.

You can download the interview by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 16

Well, this is it - the final episode of Season Two, and the last appearance of Lindsey and Kevin on the show as regular contributors. A sad time, to be sure, but who has time to be sad when there's so much going on in this episode? We've got an example of why you shouldn't post party pictures on Myspace and talk of pirated Spider-Man 3 DVDs in the News of the Week. Lindsey kicks off her "Get Right For The Summer Exer-Palooza" in this week's Two Minutes of a Girl Talking. Frank laments the death of ECW (what is this, the second or third time this year?) in Frankly Speaking, and speaking of wrestling, we've got an interview with the ONE AND ONLY HARDCORE LEGEND MICK FOLEY. Yeah. Awesome. Awesome. All this, a Soundoff, and Lindsey and Kevin's parting thoughts. Season Two is dead, long live Season Two.

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Supplemental #5: Real World Report - New Planet

On this edition of the Real World Report that we unfortunately did not have time to air, Adam lets us in on all the latest astronomical happenings as he discusses the serious implications and ramifications of discovering a new planet that could possibly sustain human life. That, and he makes about a dozen "Uranus" jokes.

You can download this supplemental Real World Report by clicking here.

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Geekspeak Season Two, Episode 15

One episode away from the thrilling conclusion to Season Two, our intrepid heroes rap about Jack Thompson and Adobe cracking down on "improper" usage of the Photoshop name in The News of the Week. Frank talks about Mick Foley (who's cool) and Randy Orton (who's kind of a douche) in this week's Frankly Speaking. Lindsey talks about real, no-foolin' Kryptonite in this week's edition of Two Minutes of a Girl Talking. And in our 120-Second Soundoff, we talk about Weird Al, prom royalty, and your mom. (One of those three things is a lie.)

As always, you can download the new episode by clicking here.

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 14

You want a new episode of Geekspeak? How convenient. I just happen to have one here. And a fine one it is, with a brief tribute to the victims of the Virginia Tech tragedy, news on Ed Norton as the Hulk and more in the News of the Week. In the Real World Report, Adam starts talking about Robocop armor and doesn't stop for about three minutes. Lindsey discusses Hippie Christmas (Earth Day) in Two Minutes of A Girl Talking, while Frank discusses the pitfalls of the Hippocratic Oath in Frankly Speaking. And, for our 60-Second Soundoff, we talk about the early days of the Internet and address cake as well. Mmm. Cake. All this, plus unnecessary and borderline creepy Pokemon sound clips! Why aren't you downloading already?

The new episode can be downloaded by clicking here.

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 13

Kevin Wilson rejoins us this week as we hit the homestretch of the season. We've got iPods for Michigan schoolkids, DC supervillain movies, and more in the News of the Week. Frank talks about masculinity in pop culture in Frankly Speaking. Lindsey sort of throws everything against the wall to see what sticks in Two Minutes of a Girl Talking, featuring everything from exercise programs to women in refrigerators. And in our 120-Second Soundoff, find out who your favorite Geekspeaker's favorite Pokemon is. Seriously. We went like six minutes on that one.

As always, you can download the new episode by clicking here.

Wednesday, April 04, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 12

In what is probably one of the best episodes we've done in a while, we come down from the high of Wrestlemania Weekend to get back down to biz-nazz. We discuss DRM-free music, Rock Band, and update you on the situation in the infamous "Hold Your Wee For A Wii" case,
and more in the News of the Week. Lindsey talks about antidepressant lotions in Two Minutes of a Girl Talking. We discuss the results of last week's Beat the Geeks
competition and recap Wrestlemania in Frankly Speaking, and get down to the root of our freakin' problems in the One Hundred and Twenty Second Soundoff. All this plus the return of
Katie Beckman!

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 11

You'd think we would have learned from the last time we tried a five-person episode, but if there is one thing we are known for here at Geekspeak, it is not exactly our pattern recognition. Regardless, I lay before you the latest edition of the Geekspeak podcast, wherein our heroes discuss old folks playin' the Wii and Hugo Weaving in the News of the Week, Frank (and everyone else) gives out picks for Wrestlemania in this week's Frankly Speaking, Lindsey talks about Nike and iPod getting nice and cozy, and Bryan discovers the secret to in-show harmony in his review of TMNT. All this, plus the respective returns of Kevin Wilson and Katie Beckman to the show, and you've got another incredibly packed show that's just itching to be downloaded.

You can do so by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 10

Despite a rocky start thanks to new equipment at Geekspeak Central Command, this episode went off pretty smoothly. We discuss homemade fusion reactors, compressed air cars, and a followup to "300" in The News of the Week, Frank chats about Kevin Federline's search engine in this week's Frankly Speaking, Lindsey raves about Geek Monthly magazine in this week's Two Minutes, and we welcome special guest and Something Awful writer Kevin Wilson into the studio to fill us in on bad video games and Internet tomfoolery. We get a little silly in this episode, I'm not going to lie.

You can download this week's episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Supplemental #4 - Real World Report: Time Travel

On this oft-delayed Real World Report, Adam waxes rhapsodic about science crushing his dreams of time travel and hanging out with strange men in lab coats.

You can download to this unaired Real World Report by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 9

After a well-deserved break, we're back with another helping of Geekspeak. This week, we're part of an upcoming retrospective about on-air host Modern Rock 91.5, as video cameras are allowed into the studio for the first time and Lindsey runs in and out all willy-nilly. We also mourn the death of an American icon as we talk about what Captain America meant to us all, try to explain really super-complicated physics, and wonder why in the world Turkey would want to block YouTube in the News of the Week. Frank talks about gaming canon in Frankly Speaking (yes, that's "canon" with one "n", I checked). Lindsey informs us of an exhibit now featured in Detroit that puts the human body on display in Two Minutes of a Girl Talking. Bryan reviews "300" and also makes a really bad attempt at a reference in this week's intro. And in our 60-Second Soundoff, it's the special "In A Fight!" edition, wherein we ponder if Batman could overtake the sun, if Lincoln could defeat Roosevelt, and if any force on earth can stop Chuck Norris.

With all this stuff, we really should charge you. But you get it for free! You can download the podcast by clicking here.

Wednesday, February 28, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 8

Geekspeak will be taking a vacation next week, but before that we've got this week's episode. And it's a doozy, even if an obstinate air conditioner can be heard rattling through the entire thing. That annoyance aside, on this week's episode we discussed subliminal messages in slot machines, terrorism in Second Life, news on Sin City 2 and a live-action Justice League movie, and lots more fun in the News of the Week. Frank discusses failed Tests, internet inaccuracies, and is briefly married to Tina Fey in this week's Frankly Speaking, Lindsey checks in to illuminate the terrifying world of Second Life for us, Adam tells us all about lasers, and Bryan comes to a slow and gentle revelation about precisely where the Mac has been all his life. Add in a 60-Second Soundoff (we were running short on time) and all the regular tomfoolery, and it's almost like you don't even need an episode next week! Just listen to this one again.

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 7

On this week's episode of Geekspeak, we chat about Gamestop policies gone awry, repressed high school memories, Milli Vanilli, and other stuff that escapes me at the moment in the News o the Week. Frank talks about the upcoming Hardy Boys re-imagining in hopes of getting Bryan riled up (to no avail) in this week's Frankly Speaking, Adam talks about plasma converters in the Real World Report, and Lindsey wonders about the lack of groupies for female comedians. All this plus a Ghost Rider review and another 120 Second Soundoff, for the low low price of free!

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Wednesday, February 14, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 6

It's Valentine's Day, and nothing helps soothe the pain of unrequited love quite like a heaping dollop of Geekspeak. On this week's episode, we chat about further fallout from the Boston "bomb scare", new movie poster technology, studies on the effect of music downloads on music sales, and more in the News of the Week. Frank addresses the sad case of women in wrestling in Frankly Speaking, Lindsey rhapsodizes about the Power Glove in Two Minutes of a Girl Talking, Adam talks about...I don't know, something...in this week's Real World Report, and we introduce a new segment: 120 Second Soundoff!

What a great episode! You can download it here.

Wednesday, February 07, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 5

Lindsey makes her triumphant return for this episode, and to celebrate we spend nearly half of it talking about the (stupid) Aqua Teen Hunger Force "bomb scare" in Boston in the News of the Week. Frank recounts his experiences with the Wii in Frankly Speaking, Lindsey brings us astronaut blogging and shenanigans in this week's Two Minutes of a Girl Talking, and we manage to get to a Big Topic holdover from last week - is it socially acceptable now to be a gamer? That's us here at Geekspeak, boldly bringing you yesterday today.

You can download the latest episode by clicking here.

Wednesday, January 31, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 4

Lindsey was sick for this one, leaving it up to Frank and Bryan to carry on in her stead. We're still not sure how it turned out. On this episode, we discuss Xbox Live threats, the latest goings-on with the big superhero franchises, credit card scanners on the PS3, new developments in the impending Robocalypse, and more in the News of the Week. Frank waxes rhapsodic about the death of the heel figure in wrestling and pop culture in Frankly Speaking, Adam pines for the days when video games were affordable in the Real World Report, and we completely blow by all other conversation in favor of an in-depth review of Elite Beat Agents that frankly got out of hand.

You can download this episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Supplemental #3: Adam's Second Real World Report

Curious what Adam was talking about last week that didn't show up in the podcast? Well, now you know - he talked about MySpace, and you can totally listen to his spiel by clicking here.

Wednesday, January 24, 2007

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 3

On this week's episode of Geekspeak, we take the chuckleheads at a California radio station to task for their monstrous negligence in the death of a mother of three, and mourn the passing of the late great Bam Bam Bigelow. But it's not all sad news! We do our first-ever giveaway, Lindsey sounds off on Beauty and the Geek, and Frank lets us know about the advertising campaign for new horror movie The Messengers. In all, a fine episode.

You can, as always, download it by clicking here.

Wednesday, January 17, 2007

Geekspeak Supplemental #2: Wait of Warcraft

Did you miss the thrilling experience of waiting outside in the bitterly cold elements to get your copy of World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade? Have no fear! Bryan did and brought back word, audible now in this extended interview segment. Hear interviews we didn't have time to fit into the show, and stuff that was too hot for the radio!*

*Not really.

You can download the supplemental podcast by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 2

Oh mercy me, it's the second episode of Geekspeak for the second season! On this incredibly packed episode, we report on the blacklisting of Peter Jackson, geek out over the unveiling of Venom, take a different radio station to task for a stupid stunt that resulted in a woman's death, and more. We've also got Lindsey talkin' nerdcore, Frank tells us about a new national contest for aspiring authors, and prodigal son Adam Barragato returns with word from the Consumer Electronics Show in a brand-spanking-new segment! All this, and Bryan braves the bitter cold to nerd it up with World of Warcraft fans on the precipice of The Burning Crusade launch.

You can download the episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Season 2, Episode 1

Here it is, the first episode of the new season! Kicking off our new hour-long format, we discuss Apple's new iPhone, the Child's Play Charity, big changes ahead for Spider-Man, the ethical and technological ramifications of the Saddam Hussein execution, and much more. Frank has a review of Snakes on a Plane (the DVD) and Lindsey waxes rhapsodic about her brand-spankin'-new iPod. Yes, ladies and fellas, she's finally living the iLife. We wrap up the show with a rundown of 2006's best geek movies. All in all, good stuff.

You can download the episode by clicking here.

Geekspeak Offseason Episode 1

It took a long time, but it's finally here. This 40-minute monster features all the segments and fun you've come to expect from Geekspeak in a slightly different format. Structured as a newsmagazine rather than a group discussion format, this episode features news, Best Of 2006 lists for comics and wrestling, Two Minutes of a Girl Talking, and a special guest appearance from video game guru Steve Watts. Consider it an exceedingly late Christmas gift.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 14

Fourteen weeks later, we've got our final episode of the regular season. It's a big one, with a review of Sneak King, discussion of the relevance of NASA,
product placement in superhero movies, and an analysis of how women are portrayed in comic books. It's actually almost more than we could fit into thirty minutes,
but somehow we managed. Of course, we've got other news, Frank discusses the downfall of ECW, and we welcome Jake Lahmann for his first official appearance on the show alongside returning bit player Adam Barragato.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 13

Back to the half-hour format this week, but we still managed to fit scads o'stuff into it. Thrill as we discuss a new Constantine movie! Tremble in terror as we chat about injuries sustained from playing the Wii! Gasp in awe as Adam shows up halfway through and makes a personal challenge to Bill O'Reilly in our Big Topic! Dance a merry jig with our one-two punch of Frank's Wrasslin' Report and Two Minutes of a Girl Talking! It's one podcast, but it inspires so much emotion.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 12

It's Thanksgiving, and do we ever have a feast for you! It's the first-ever full-hour Geekspeak! It's probably our single biggest show of all time, with a full deck of people in the studio - every mic manned! Joining us for this show and making their triumphant returns in doing so are Katie Beckman and Adam Barragato, and a lot of fun they are.

We talk about the shocking news of Peter Jackson leaving the Tolkien universe, the new Harry Potter trailer, Bruce Lee coming back to life, and more. Frank and Katie chat about women wrestlers in the Wrasslin' Report, Lindsey talks about Harry Potter in 2 Minutes, and for our (two!) Big Topics this week, we discuss what we are thankful for as geeks along with a blow-by-blow analysis of the launch weekend madness for the PS3 and the Wii.

As you chow down on turkey, treat yourself to some brain food too...along with a heaping side of cliches, apparently. Huh.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 11

We welcome forensics coach and wrasslin' geek Katie Beckman to the fold with this episode. On
it? We talk Spider-Man 3 trailer, the upcoming clash o' the titans between the Wii and the PS3,
dolphins that can sing the Batman theme song, and Nicholas Cage. We also give you an update on the Coming Robot Apocalypse, and dedicate a very special Chicken Dance to Frank's dearly
departed friend. Nicole, we will miss you.

Of course, Frank's got his wrasslin' report, and Lindsey comes out of nowhere with a really
intriguing 2 Minutes Of A Girl Talking that was really more like Seven Minutes Of A Girl
Talking and a lot of fun. To sum up: new panelist, Spider-Man 3, nerds in love...how come
you're not downloading it already?

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 10

It's the night after Election night and those of us at Geekspeak are recovering, especially Bryan who stayed up until 4 AM to keep track of what was going on (and he only got paid to do so until 1 AM - what a loser). Still, we had to make note of it, and we do with a couple segments - a Superhero Spectacular where we discuss the torrent of incoming Marvel movies as well as political affiliations of your favorite superheroes, as well as some words from Lindsey.

We also chatted about Kevin Federline's breakup with Britney Spears and if his WWE stint had anything to do with it (hint: it didn't) and made fun of Tomonobu Itagaki for being a creepy sex offender. You had to be there.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 9

This was another fun episode. We discussed all kinds of movie news, from Halo to Speed Racer, chatted a bit about Kingdom Hearts, bragged a little about going to Wrestlemania next year, all kinds of stuff. Bryan went nuts in this episode, cursing the name of "trust fund kids" that can actually afford the PS3 and very nearly quoting the entirety of V's introductory speech for the intro. Frank chimed in with a very nostalgia-driven Wrasslin' Report, Lindsey and Frank drop some dramatic readings of Dinosaur Comics in 2 Minutes, and we discuss whether or not we're too reliant on technology as a culture.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 8

The phone wouldn't stop ringing this episode. That sticks out pretty prominently in my memory. What also sticks out prominently is that we discuss the Halo movie, the new tracks for Guitar Hero 2, Fraggle Rock, new iPods, and lots more. Frank talks about the new TNA contracts, Lindsey drops her new segment on us by talking about some of her favorite websites, and we talk a little about the geekiest of all holidays, Halloween, and our plans for costumes.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 7

Our transmitter went down like, I don't know, maybe two, three, a billion times during this episode. This means two things: 1) Much of this is really "internet-exclusive" content, and 2) The whole pace of the show is different. Not the most polished show we've ever done, but we had some fun and still managed to put together a decent enough show in the face of adversity.

We discuss Kingdom Hearts II, iPod viruses, K-Fed getting his butt kicked on Raw, taxes in MMORPGs, and lots more. Plus, we started a new feature, Geekspeak Essentials, where we'll run down the essential media/etc. that anyone who listens to the show should see/hear/read/etc. - This week, it's movies, and the illustrious WMHW Program Director Adam Barragato drops in for a surprise film critique throwdown. Not a perfect show, but it's a great illustration of live radio and was still a lot of fun to do.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 6

I don't know what it is about this show, but I can honestly and without hyperbole say that every week keeps getting better and better. What's so great about this one? Try a new cast member. Lindsay had so much fun dropping in last week she's now going to be a permanent fixture on the show, so everyone give her a nice welcome. "Oh, Sony, Sony, Sony" makes its triumphant return to the show as I completely botch the story that not only did I write, but is directly in front of me. We discuss the implications of WWE's new tag team "Crime Time" in Frank's wrestling segment and our big topic of the week talks about midterm elections and their effect on video games and geek culture in general. All this, plus gun-toting robots, haiku, and Arrested Development references.

Geekspeak Supplemental #1: Brad Olrich

Here's the complete, 26-minute interview with Commdore Dinosaur creator Brad Olrich from Episode 5. Lots of stuff was covered here, including how Olrich uses comics in the classroom, his influences, the ability of the internet to allow creators to publish, and even some blue-r language than could have been aired during the show.

You can download this supplemental podcast here.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 5

This episode was a hoot and a half. We had our first interview ever, with the erstwhile Brad
Olrich, creator of Commodore Dinosaur. We've also got a review of the X-Men 3 DVD, we talk about the premiere of South Park, Burger King games, and so much more. We even had a surprise guest drop by the studio to rap with us, and that's pretty neat-o, too. Of course, as always, we've got our standard news and pro wrestling updates.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 4

So Frank showed up at the last minute for this one. And my girlfriend (yes I do have one) Pang IMed us to let me know we needed milk. That doesn't matter, we here at Geekspeak are awesome despite adversity.

On this week's episode, it's very news-heavy as we talk about the PS3's dwindling (or growing?) chances at prosperity. We talk a little Wii, Weird Al's new album, discuss the potential for paid online distribution of comics, make fun of Keith Richards, and in this week's Big Topic, I give a brief review of Jet Li's swan song, "Fearless". And somehow, we also managed to fit in some chatting about pie. I'd say it's our best show yet.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 3

This episode is jam-packed full of great stuff. We talk about the Wii - not just how much the thing costs, but the games, the potential, and lots more. We give shout-outs to Jay-Z and Adam West, which is relevant because I believe we are the only radio show to have ever done so in the same segment. So the show has that going for it.

Frank also checks in with his Wrasslin' Report, we talk about The Boogeyman's release, Kurt Angle joining an MMA league, and lots more. Our Big Topic for the week is Marvel's Civil War storyline. I If you like the idea of two guys pontificating about the social relevance of superheroes beating the tar out of one another, you've got a lot to like in this episode.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 2

So, here it is, our second episode!

In this episode, we talk about the new announcement that Apple will be offering downloadable movies for the iPod, as well as update you on the upcoming battle between Nintendo's Wii and the Playstation 3. There's two Batman stories in this one, and Batman is always pretty awesome. Frank busts out a wrestling update with some Unforgiven predictions, and we run down the list of upcoming video game movies. Lots of movies on there...few of them good.

Geekspeak Season 1, Episode 1

In this episode, we talk a little about what the show is all about, and let folks know how they can interact with it...or we would, if for some reason the first two minutes weren't missing. Don't know how that happened. Mea Culpa. First episode, you know.

The rest of the show is perfectly intact, however! We discuss the week's big news stories, everything from Democratic candidate Mark Warner's appearance in Second Life to Mario Happy Meals to the new Optimus Prime to other things that would make this a really long run-on sentence. Frank steps in with the first edition of his wrasslin' report and we also chat about some of the big nerd news of the summer.

So here it is, for better or for worse, our first episode. Enjoy.
